Nature, the great artisan of its resources has created a limitless array of molecules. More specifically, the plants represent a great source of an illimitable array of novel molecules. The use of plants as traditional medicine has a long history in different societies and cultures throughout the globe. Even in the era of modern medicine where synthetic molecules as drugs have become a popular choice, the herbal medicines still hold their niche in non-industrialized societies. In fact, 80% of the world population utilizes plants for their primary health care and out of 252 basic and essential drugs recommended by the WHO, 11% are of plant origin.
Although India is blessed with the richest traditions of herbal medicine, only few medicinal plants have been scientifically evaluated. At Enzene, a team of dedicated researchers are evaluating various active components from different plant sources using state-of-the-art research facilities. With a variety of cell based bioassays and advanced analytical technologies coupled with a diversified scientific team, we aim to bring new chemical entities (NCEs) of tremendous therapeutic potential at a rapid pace.
